With a bright light in his eye that always seemed to appear whenever he was outdoors, my grandfather took me up Skiddaw when I was eight. I’ve been wandering up and down hills ever since, some of them a little larger and farther from home.
Most of my hillwalking articles have been published in The Great Outdoors. These have included a number of Wild Walk guides, with routes on Dartmoor and the coast. One in the Lake District even incorporated a canoe trip.
